RAED YASSIN: HELL BETWEEN MY TEETH, PHANTOM IN MY HEART AND NEVER-ENDING HUM

Art

Vernissage: 18/04/2024 à 18:00

Du 19/04/2024 à 11:00 jusqu'au 07/09/2024 à 18:00

In the past four years, the world has undergone significant upheaval, marked by heightened anxiety, fear, and instability. Throughout periods of home confinement and existential disaster in Lebanon and the region, we've been compelled to confront issues that have been festering and accumulating over the past 30-40 years. It's as if time momentarily paused, to raise what we have long avoided out of fear of disrupting the freedoms we've chosen to pursue. Raed Yassin's exhibition comprises works created over the past four years to date. He reflects on this perpetuation of failure - starting from the civil war in Lebanon, death, loss, disappearance, and confronting ghosts of the present and future.

In "Hell between my teeth, phantom in my heart, and never-ending hum" Yassin continues his practice of examining his personal narratives and their position within a collective history, through the lens of consumer culture and mass production. With 14 bodies of works, seven of which are new commissions, Yassin haunts the exhibition, by common figures and icons, be they pop stars, representations of the devil and hell, animals, skulls, found images, or Beirut's beloved Shushu. The exhibition invites viewers to reassess their realities and perspectives in the face of the ongoing loss, as the certainties we once relied upon have been upended, leaving behind traces and uncertain truths.
