"Modern Mythologies” by Ahmed Manawishi is an artistic journey echoing Helmut Newton's groundbreaking photography of the 70s and 80s. Amidst the evolving social landscape, Manawishi interprets Newton's lens through a prism of contemporary expression.
These paintings, unveiled at the Valentine's Day exhibition in Beirut's L’atelier by Maher Attar, transcend the boundaries between photography and painting. They capture the enigmatic allure of women, transforming them into contemporary mythological figures. In a delicate dance of strength and vulnerability, sensuality and mystery, each canvas becomes a portal into a realm where Newton's essence intertwines with Manawishi's vision.
As a bridge connecting two artistic realms, this collection not only pays homage to Newton's legacy but also challenges the constraints of modern-day political correctness, rekindling the spirit of sexual liberation and exploration that characterized Newton's era. Through a dialogue of lines, colors and rich textures, Manawishi crafts an ode to the eternal mystique of the feminine, inviting viewers to immerse themselves in a visual tapestry that transcends time and societal norms.
