Green Room is an installation by Ieva Saudargaitė Douaihi that will launch on Wednesday, February 19, from 17:00 to 20:00 at our space.
In reference to a room in a theater where performers wait before stepping onto the stage, Green Room presents hints of forthcoming works by the artist beneath a shroud of fresh Tropaeolum leaves which will desiccate over time, interacting
unpredictably with the objects below. Engaging with the tension between control and vulnerability, presence and absence, the installation embraces latency and decay as an inevitable part of creation.
The installation will be visible from the streets after the opening until March 11. Ieva Saudargaitė Douaihi is a multi-disciplinary artist working with photography, installation and various media. Her work is influenced by her background in
architecture, an interest in the built and natural environments as well as different layers of street life. Having grown up between fundamentally different geographies, Lithuania, UAE and Lebanon, Ieva developed an early interest in the intricate
interplay between space, environment and human interaction. She has been living and working in Lebanon since 2007.
Drawing inspiration from the urban and natural landscape surrounding her, Ieva's practice seeks to uncover the layers of history, culture, ecology and experiences embedded within. Experimenting with a diverse range of mediums - from image making to mixed media and digital art - she pushes the boundaries of traditional techniques to create multi-dimensional artworks that elevate the mundane or the seemingly coincidental. Lately, she has been exploring working with found objects and plant matter gathered in the city in combination with photography and drawing.
