Alcântara: The Travels of the Brazilian Emperor Dom Pedro II in the Arab World in 1871 and 1876
ArtDu 21/09/2022 à 00:00 jusqu'au 21/12/2022 à 00:00
In the 19th century, the Emperor of Brazil crossed the oceans to visit Lebanon, Syria, Palestine and Egypt. He was amazed by the history and culture of the region and traveled without any royal pomp, like a regular tourist.
A century and a half later, we will tell the story of these trips through the Emperor’s diaries and letters, sketches done by himself of the landscapes and monuments he visited and photographs of his collection. Tales from the past that helped shape the connections between Brazil and Lebanon until nowadays.
The exhibition is produced by the Embassy of Brazil in Beirut in partnership with Dar El-Nimer for Arts and Culture, and curated by Roberto Khatlab.
The exhibition is open until December 21, Monday through Saturday, from 11 am until 5 pm.
