On the occasion of World Portuguese Language Day (Dia Mundial da Língua Portuguesa), IGR-Beirute is screening for the first time: 'Palavra (En)Cantada'/'Enchanted Word'.
'Palavra (En)Cantada' is a Brazilian documentary released in 2008 and directed by Helena Solberg. Awarded 'The Best Direction of a Documentary Film' at Rio Film Festival, 'Palavra (En)Cantada' explores the powerful and intensely emotional relationship between music and poetry in Brazilian culture.
The film features interviews and performances by some of Brazil's most renowned composers and musicians, including Caetano Veloso, Chico Buarque, Gilberto Gil, Maria Bethania, Adriana Calcanhotto, and Tom Zé. As well, the film showcases rare footage of Brazilian poetry readings from the birth of the samba in the early 20th century to the present day.
This documentary is for you if you are a music, poetry, and culture-savvy person whether or not you are already in contact with the Brazilian culture.
